Restock guide
How to set it up and use it. Something missing or unclear? Ask us on the support page.
Getting started
- Install Restock from the Shopify App Store. It opens inside your Shopify admin.
- A "Syncing your products" banner shows while it reads your catalog. The page updates when it's done.
- Settings › Stock location: "Plan and receive stock for" shows the location Restock uses. It plans one location at a time; changing it re-syncs.
Add your suppliers
- Suppliers › Add supplier.
- Fill in Name, "Order email" and "Lead time (days)".
- In "Shopify vendor names (comma separated)", enter the Vendor values your products use. Those products are then matched to this supplier.
Set reorder points
- Products › for each product, set "Reorder at" (when to reorder) and "Order up to" (how much stock you want after ordering).
- Click Save changes.
The free plan covers 25 items. Each size or color counts as one.
See what to reorder
The Reorder page lists every item whose stock plus what's already on order is at or below "Reorder at".
- Items are grouped by supplier, with an estimated cost.
- The suggested quantity brings each item back up to "Order up to", counting what's already on order.
Purchase orders
- On Reorder, click "Create purchase order" for a supplier. A draft opens (PO-1001, PO-1002, ...).
- Change quantities or unit costs if needed › "Save draft".
- Click "Mark as ordered" once you've placed the order. On Pro, "Email to ..." sends it to the supplier with a spreadsheet attached; their replies go to your store's contact email.
- "Download CSV" gives you the order as a spreadsheet at any time.
Receive stock
- Open the order. In "Receive now", enter what arrived for each line › "Receive stock".
- Shopify's stock goes up by exactly that much. You can receive part now and the rest later.
Restock never adds the same stock twice, even with two tabs open or a double click.
It won't receive more than is still outstanding. If a supplier sent extra, edit the order first.
Daily low-stock email Pro plan
- Settings › Daily low-stock email › tick "Email me when items need reordering".
- "Send to": leave blank for the store owner's email in Shopify, or type another address.
- "Send at (UTC)": the hour it's sent › Save. It only sends when something needs ordering.
Cost updates Pro plan
Off until you turn it on, because it changes your product data in Shopify.
- Settings › Costs › tick "When stock is received, update Shopify's cost per item to the weighted average" › Save.
- Example: 2 in stock at $4.00, then 18 received at $5.00, gives (2 × $4.00 + 18 × $5.00) ÷ 20 = $4.90.
- To include freight, duty and fees: on the order, under Landed cost, enter the shipping, duties and fees for the whole order, choose how to split them (by value or by quantity) › Save shipping and fees. Each line shows its landed cost, and stock received from then on comes in at that cost.
Each order lists the costs it changed, old and new, for 30 days, so you can set one back in Shopify if a price was typed wrong.
Shipping, duties and fees never appear on the supplier's copy of the order. Lines without a unit cost, or at $0, take no share and keep their cost.
Enter them before receiving: stock already received keeps the cost it came in at, and they can't be added once the order is fully received.
Uninstalling
- Uninstall from Shopify admin › Settings › Apps. Restock stops at once.
- 48 hours later Shopify asks us to erase your store's data, and we do. Download any purchase orders you want to keep first.
